Running a creative business is a lot. Like, a lot a lot. From setting a clear vision for your business (and responding when things go pear-shaped) to deciding which services you want to offer, standing out in the market and tracking your goals, it can feel like navigating uncharted territory.
But fear not, because every successful service business has faced similar challenges. With the right guidance and support, you can transform uncertainty into clarity.
"Seeing your vision and planning backwards as action steps is the path to good progress."
- Renee Minchin
Here's how to get clarity on
your business' next steps
Step One
Clarify which services you want to move forward with
Look at your existing services - Which services bring you the most joy and feel easy and fun to deliver? Which ones do you sell with the most ease?
Next, identify patterns in your client feedback. What do your customers like about the service? What improvements or extra features would they like to see?
Simplify your offers in terms of delivery and sales. Test and experiment. Remember, this is not a one-and-done.
Step Two
Get to know your customers
The first step of any market analysis is understanding your customers deeply. Talk to them. Ask them (nicely - and maybe with a little reward) to participate in a survey. Analyse your past sales data.
The better you know your customers, their needs and preferences, the easier it will be to tailor your products and services to them.
Step Three
Design milestones
that feel good
It's time to take a step back and look at the big picture.
You started this business for a reason. What was it?
Start thinking about your big life goals. How would you like your business to support them? Next, break the goals down into smaller objectives. What actions do you need to take to make them happen?
Finally, write down the 'milestones'. How will you know when you accomplish a goal? What will it look and feel like? Consider linking each milestones with a personal reward to celebrate new wins as they happen.
